DTI CAN HELP YOU GO GREEN

 

DTI offers the following services to help Delaware state organizations Go Green to Save Green.  Those in the private sector may want to consider exploring these options in their own organizations.

• Conference Calls (Phone Bridge Conferencing)
• Why travel to a meeting across town or across state when you can connect several people in various locations, via conference call, using a bridge line?
• If you have 2 - 6 participants, reserve a “conference call bridge” by contacting the DTI Service Desk at 302-739-9560 or dti_servicedesk@state.de.us.
• If you have 7 or more participants, contact 877-716-8255

Green IT:   Participating in meetings via teleconference reduces travel, thereby reducing one's carbon footprint.

• DocumentDirect  -  formerly referred to as MOBIUS
• DocumentDirect offers the convenience of accessing batch reports online, which are run on a programmed schedule. The reports are available to be viewed and/or printed the morning after being run.
• Why print a 125-page report if you only need pages 5 and 83?
• Why wait for your printed report to be delivered when it may be out of date by the time it reaches you?
• Contact your DTI Customer Relationship Specialist for assistance, to determine if your report(s) can be made available via DocumentDirect.

Green IT:   Document Direct reduces paper printing and paper waste.

• e-Payment Solution
• State of Delaware organizations (agencies/school districts/entities) can securely accept credit card payments through their own web sites.
• Contact your DTI Customer Relationship Specialist for assistance.

Green IT:  e-Payment Solution reduces payment processing waste/time.

• Exchange Fax Service (EFS)  -  formerly referred to as Genifax
• Exchange Fax Service (EFS) offers functionality integrated with Microsoft’s Exchange email, enabling a user to send and receive faxes from their desktop. This service provides an efficient alternative to separate, stand-alone fax equipment.
• By replacing fax machines with EFS, a fax communication is transmitted to or from an individual’s email, in an electronic format. This improves document management and workflow, compliance with internal security requirements through secure transmission options, online reading, ability to respond quickly, archival capabilities, and can reduce paper usage.

Green IT:   EFS eliminates paper faxes and fax equipment, and reduces energy consumption.

• Green Hardware Deployment (Server Virtualization)
• This provides a customized virtual server environment.
• Contact your local technical support person/group – who can contact DTI Customer Relationship Specialist, for assistance.

Green IT:  Consolidating your server needs by using a virtual server, instead of a physical machine, saves significant power.

• Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
• WSUS enables network administrators to deploy the latest Microsoft product updates to Microsoft Windows Server 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP operating systems. By using Windows Server Update Services, you can fully manage the distribution of updates, that are released through Microsoft Update, to computers in your network.

Green IT:  WSUS reduces IT professional travel to various State facilities, thereby reducing one's carbon footprint.

• Office Communication Services (OCS)
• OCS is a corporate instant messaging solution.
• Why play “phone tag” and/or make in-state long distance calls at $0.03/per minute, when you can send an instant message to a fellow State employee?
• Contact your local technical support person/group, who can contact DTI Customer Relationship Specialist, for assistance.

Green IT:   Collaborating electronically with remote colleagues reduces telephone/travel costs, thereby reducing one's carbon footprint.

• Paper Recycling
• The State of Delaware is currently under contract with Infinity Recycling, Inc. for its paper recycling needs.
• View the instructions for Delaware State Office Paper Recycling, through Infinity Recycling, Inc.
• View the list of State of Delaware facilities that have Infinity Recycling paper recycling bins (as of 10/09/2008).
• The current OMB/GSS contract is available for viewing on the OMB website.
• Video Conferencing and Distance Learning
• Host or participate in video conferences for distance education, meetings, presentation, lectures, research, or supplemental education.

Green IT:  Participating in events by video conference reduces travel, thereby reducing one's carbon footprint.

• Virtual Private Network (SSL-VPN)
• SSL-VPN allows you to securely access the State's internal network, providing access to network file shares, web-based applications, etc.

• WebEx (webinar service)
• Use WebEx for on-demand collaboration, online meeting, web conferencing, and video conferencing applications.
• Contact your organization’s technical support group/person, the DTI Service Desk at 302-739-9560, or dti_servicedesk@state.de.us to reserve access to the State of Delaware's WebEx server.
